What is Kundan Jewelry?

Kundan jewelry is a traditional form of Indian gemstone jewelry involving a unique setting technique originating centuries ago, primarily associated with the royal courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. It uses highly refined gold foil (kundan) to meticulously set carefully shaped, uncut glass pieces (often colored) or polished gemstones (like polki diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires) into an elaborate base, often lac-filled.

The defining feature is the layered foil built up around the stone, creating a secure and reflective setting without conventional prongs.
